Uganda Warns Of Impending Floods
The Ugandan government has warned its citizens to get ready for heavy floods expected to afflict parts of the country in the next two months. Uganda’s Disaster Preparedness Minister, Tarsis Kabwegyere says unusually heavy rains are especially expected in eastern Uganda, where an estimated 3.5 million people lost their homes and crops in heavy flooding last year. Kabwegyere said the government has set aside $3.7 million to help manage the situation, and advised people living in mountainous areas to relocate in order to avoid the possibility of devastation by landslides.
