Mass Graves Found in Kenya’s Mt Elgon Area

Kenyan security agents have found 21 bodies buried in mass graves allegedly sunk by a notorious militia group in Kenya’s restive Mt Elgon district. Ten bodies were unearthed last Saturday, while 11 others were discovered over the past two weeks. The dead bodies are suspected to belong to victims of the Sabaot Land Defence Force (SLDF), a militia group initially formed to agitate for clan land rights which morphed into an extortion racket that claimed over 600 lives. Earlier this year, human rights groups accused the Kenya army of gross human rights violations in its controversial campaign to wipe out the SLDF. [PE]
