UN Chief Perturbed by Peacekeepers’ Misconduct in Congo
United Nations (New York, USA)
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says he is deeply disturbed by evidence of sexual misconduct by UN peacekeepers during their service in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The evidence, which was unearthed by a probe into the allegations, accuses over 100 Indian members of the UN mission in Congo (MONUC) of sexually abusing young Congolese girls and boys over several years. Ban said the Indian government had promised to investigate the allegations and take exemplary action against soldiers found guilty. [PE]
