A roadside bomb killed two Ethiopian soldiers in Wanlaweyn, Southern Somalia, prompting their colleagues to kill six Somali civilians in retaliation. Eyewitnesses say the Ethiopian troops shot indiscriminately into a crowd moments after the bomb exploded, killing four men, a woman and a child. Roadside bombs are quite common in Somalia, and are mostly employed by Islamist insurgents against Ethiopian troops backing the country’s fragile interim government. [PE]
