Ugandan Opposition Leader Seeks Third Run for Presidency
Ugandan Opposition leader Kizza Besigye says he will accept his party's nomination to run for the presidency in 2011, hinting at a third contest between him and President Yoweri Museveni. Besigye made the announcement at a time when his opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) faces internal leadership wrangles, and as his wife, former legislator Winnie Byanyima, considers running for president herself. Last week, Besigye signed a cooperation pact with three other opposition parties, which is widely seen as a step towards fielding a joint opposition candidate to stand against President Museveni, who has ruled Uganda since 1986.
