Eight people were killed Sunday when a suicide bomber drove a van loaded with explosives into a police station in Zemmouri el-Bahri, a popular resort in eastern Algeria. Al-Qaeda's North African branch promptly claimed responsibility for the attack. The Algerian Interior Ministry later announced that the country’s army had killed 12 armed Islamists, among them some of the suspected leaders of Al-Qaeda’s Maghreb wing, in an ambush Thursday night near Beni Douala.
