Ugandan Opposition Parties Sign Cooperation Pact
Ugandan Opposition leader Kizza Besigye has signed a “protocol for cooperation” with three other opposition parties, hinting at the possible fielding of a joint opposition candidate to face President Yoweri Museveni in the 2011 election. Besigye’s Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) signed the pact Wednesday with the Uganda People's Congress (UPC), the Justice Forum Party (Jeema) and the Conservative Party (CP). Another group, the Democratic Party (DP), has asked for more time to consult its members. President Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, reportedly plans to run for a seventh term in 2011. [PE
