Two Somali Ministers Accuse President of Subverting Govt

Two Somali government ministers have accused the country’s president of subverting his prime minister’s government, deepening a political row within the fragile transitional administration. Ministers Mohamed Ibrahim Habsade and Nur Muse Amin accused President Abdullahi Yusuf of orchestrating the resignation of 10 Cabinet ministers last week in a bid to sabotage Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein’s government. The country’s top two leaders have been at odds since President Yusuf revoked the Prime Minister’s decision to sack the mayor of Mogadishu. Meanwhile, clashes between Islamist insurgents and Ethiopian troops backing the government have continued, with mortar shells killing at least 10 people on Tuesday in Mogadishu. [PE]
