A new survey has shown that 65% of Kenyans approve of the unity government formed to halt violent skirmishes that followed the country’s disputed 2007 election. In the poll conducted by the Steadman Group, respondents had an even higher rating for the principal heads leaders of the unity government, with Prime Minister Raila Odinga scoring a 75% approval, and President Mwai Kibaki garnering 68%. Kibaki and Odinga formed a coalition administration after at least 1500 Kenyans were killed in ethnic skirmishes that ensued when both leaders claimed victory in the closely contested election. [PE]
