AU Urges UN to Take over Somali Peacekeeping

The African Union (AU) has asked the UN to deploy a peacekeeping force in Somalia, saying its peacekeepers lacked the capacity to stabilize the dire security situation in the war torn. AU Commissioner for Peace and Security Ramtane Lamamra told the U.N. Security Council Wednesday that the AU mission in Somalia severely lacked adequate funding and logistic support, and urged the better endowed world body to take over. [PE]
