Zimbabwe Talks to Begin Tuesday
Talks to resolve Zimbabwe’s political crisis are set to begin Tuesday, one day after President Robert Mugabe and Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai formally committed themselves to negotiations aimed at forming a unity government. Meeting face to face for the first time in ten years, Mugabe and Tsvangirai signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Harare, which binds them to reach a negotiated solution within two weeks. Mugabe's government and the opposition have been locked in an intransigent face-off since Mugabe’s June 27 reelection in a one-man runoff boycotted by Tsvangirai because of violence against his supporters.
