The UN has estimated that $641 million is needed to sustain aid operations in Somalia this year. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) released the figure in a new report dated July 16, adding that the situation was being exacerbated by worsening insecurity, drought and dire food shortages. OCHA has also launched an appeal for contributions to help raise a $435 million shortfall in its Somalia reserve amount. [PE]
