Arab League Devises Plan to ‘Stall’ Bashir Indictment
The Arab League says it has devised a plan that will insulate Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir from attempts by the International Criminal Court (ICC) to have him arrested and tried over alleged genocide in Darfur. Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, who held discussions with Bashir in Khartoum Sunday, declined to divulge the details of the plan to journalists. Last week, ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo announced that he would seek Bashir’s arrest and trial on allegations that he masterminded a campaign of genocide against ethnic Darfuris [PE].
