Burkinabe Muslim Leaders to Promote Family Planning
Muslim leaders in Burkina Faso will promote family planning among their faithful, a meeting of the country's principal Islamic organisations resolved Friday. Maiga Aboubakary, the secretary-general of the Burkina Faso Islamic Organisation in Population and Development (RBOIPD), said the leaders would tour Burkina Faso's 45 provinces and 13 regions to promote for family planning among the country’s Muslims, who account for an estimated 50 percent of the country's 14 million people. Most Burkinabe Muslims shun family planning, believing that it goes against Islamic doctrines. [P.E]
