8 July 2008
The Ugandan government has proposed a new law that will subject parents and guardians who fail to feed their children to a six-month jail term or a $148 fine. The proposal is part of the Agriculture ministry’s new Food and Nutrition Bill, which seeks to ensure food security in the country. Minister Fred Mukisa says parents and guardians must ensure their children receive proper nutritional care because food security begins with the family. [PE]
