Kenyan Parliament Debates Ethnic Relations Bill
Kenya’s parliament is in the process of establishing an ethnic relations law. Legislators spent the earlier sessions of the week debating the Ethnic Relations Bill, which was introduced after tribal fighting claimed thousands of lives after the country’s controversial December 2007 presidential elections. Meanwhile, the Assembly Wednesday passed a motion of no confidence in the country’s finance minister, Amos Kimunya, who has since last week been the subject of suspected corruption in the shadowy sale of the state-owned Grand Regency Hotel.
