Tsvangirai Contemplates Boycotting Zimbabwe Runoff Poll
Zimbabwean Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai is reportedly pondering whether to pull out of next week’s presidential runoff amid fears that the election may not be free and fair. Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) says at least 70 of its supporters have been killed since the opposition leader defeated President Robert Mugabe in the March 29 first round ballot, and that the escalating political violence makes conditions unfeasible for a fair poll. President Robert Mugabe has vowed not to hand over power even if he loses the June 27 runoff.
