Burundi Army Arrests 100 FNL Recruits
The Burundian army has reportedly arrested over 100 men undergoing recruitment to join the country’s PalipeHutu-FNL rebel group. Army spokesman Adolphe Manirakiza said the recruitment breached the recently signed peace agreement between the rebels and the Burundian administration. Manirakiza further alleged that the rebels planned to swell their numbers in order to demand a larger share of positions in possible unity government. Rebel spokesman Pasteur Habimana however denied the allegations, saying the men had been arrested on their way to a disarmament assembly. [P.E]
