Mbeki Denounces Escalating Political Violence in Zimbabwe

South African President Thabo Mbeki has expressed “serious concern” over the escalation of violence in Zimbabwe ahead of an epic presidential run-off election scheduled for June 27. Speaking ahead of a special UN Security Council meeting on the Zimbabwe, Mbeki said the violence and campaign disruptions must be contained urgently. Meanwhile, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has criticised the Zimbabwean government for disregarding the rights of trade unions and detaining trade unionists. [P.E]
