Tsvangirai Rejects Calls for Unity Government
Zimbabwean Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has rejected calls to form a national unity government with the ruling Zanu-PF party. Speaking in Harare, Tsvangirai exuded confidence that his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) would win the July 19 second vote despite political violence against its supporters. Former cabinet Minister Simba Makoni, who trailed Tsvangirai and incumbent President Robert Mugabe in the first round ballot, has called for the formation of a unity government owing to a spate of political violence experienced after the March 29 election.
