Zimbabwe Doctors Treat over 3,000 Victims of Political Violence
Zimbabwean doctors say they have treated thousands of victims injured in the country’s ongoing political violence over the last two months. Specialist Doctors in Zimbabwe - an umbrella body of the country’s medical associations - says its doctors have handled over 3,000 cases, most with severe injuries. According to the medical body, 200 people have had to be hospitalized and a number have died from their injuries. Meanwhile, militant ruling party supporters blocked an opposition rally in Harare and police prevented opposition supporters in Bulawayo from putting up campaign posters of opposition candidate Morgan Tsvangirai. Zimbabweans are scheduled to vote in a presidential runoff on June 27, which will pit Tsvangirai against veteran President Robert Mugabe. [P.E]
