Zimbabwean Opposition Leader Briefly Detained In Bulawayo
Zimbabwean Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai spent nine hours in a police cell Tuesday after being arrested on the campaign trail in Zimbabwe’s second city, Bulawayo. Tsvangirai was arrested for "attracting a large number of people" and detained alongside 14 other officials of his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), including deputy party leader Thokozane Kupe and chairman Lovemore Moyo. The group was halted at a roadblock near Bulawayo and confined at a police station in Lupane, a rural district north of Bulawayo. Tsvangirai was compelled to sign a formal police caution before the group was released.
