Kenya Admits Holding 103 Poll Violence Suspects
The Kenya government Tuesday confirmed that it had arrested 103 suspected perpetrators of the ethnic skirmishes that followed Kenya’s disputed December 2007 presidential election. According to Government spokesman Alfred Mutua, the suspects were arrested on charges of murder, rape, arson and physical assault, largely committed in Nairobi, Eldoret, Kisumu and Naivasha. The country’s Prime Minister Raila Odinga has insisted on the unconditional release of all the suspects, publicly disagreeing with President Mwai Kibaki’s rejection of any such amnesty. [P.E]
