Talks between Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir’s National Congress Party (NCP) and the South Sudanese Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) are yet to yield a resolution to the armed clashes between the two sides in the disputed oil-rich town of Abyei, a US diplomat sent by Washington to help avert a return to full scale civil war has said. US special envoy to Sudan Richard Williamson said Monday that the situation was still explosive, adding that it was in the interest of both sides to resolve the tense standoff. [P.E]
