4 June 2008 - News From Africa
Zimbabwe has banned CARE International from operating within its borders, alleging that the international NGO was campaigning for the Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai. CARE's Communications Manager for Africa Kenneth Walker said the organization’s humanitarian activities were suspended last Friday, depriving over 500,000 Zimbabwean beneficiaries of the agency’s food aid, water, and micro credits projects. Tsvangirai is widely expected to unseat veteran President Robert Mugabe in the June 27 runoff election. [P.E]
