Kenyan PM Insists on Release of Poll Violence Suspects
Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga has reiterated his call for the unconditional release of youths detained over the post election violence experienced in the country earlier this year, publicly controverting President Mwai Kibaki’s refusal to offer any such amnesty. Odinga told a public rally in Nairobi Monday that the youths had been arrested while pursuing their democratic rights after a botched election. The youths were apprehended in intense skirmishes that claimed over 1500 lives after Odinga, then Opposition leader, accused Kibaki of stealing the controversial December 2007 presidential poll. [P.E]
