Mass Graves with Over 100 Bodies Unearthed In DRC
Three mass graves with over 100 decomposed bodies have been discovered by UN peacekeepers in North Kivu, a province in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). UN Mission spokesman Kemal Saiki said a preliminary examination of the graves indicated that they were probably dug in 1990s, adding however that the exact dates were yet to be established. The Eastern part of the DRC was the scene of much fighting during the Second Congo War that took place between 1998 and 2003. The region has in subsequent years witnessed numerous clashes between various rebel groups and the Kinshasa government. [P.E]
