The International Crisis Group (ICJ) has raised fears that hard-line Zimbabwean politicians close to President Robert Mugabe may perpetrate a military coup to block Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s possible ascent to the presidency. ICJ says that should Tsvangirai’s victory appear imminent, the military could take over power either before or after the scheduled June 27 runoff, thus preventing him from taking office. [P.E]
