The armed conflict between the Sudanese army and South Sudanese forces in the oil-rich Abyei region resurged Tuesday with a predawn outbreak of gunfire that continued for over four hours. The new clashes follow failed attempts to reach a ceasefire between the northern and southern troops. The disputed oil-rich region is claimed by both the Arab-dominated central government and the semi-autonomous South.
