MDC launches Runoff Campaign without Tsvangirai
Zimbabwe’s Opposition Movement for Democratic Change Sunday launched its runoff campaign in the second city of Bulawayo without party leader Morgan Tsvangirai, who delayed his return to the country over an alleged government plot to assassinate him. MDC deputy leader Thokozani Khupe told an estimated 10,000 supporters at the rally that Tsvangirai won the first round vote outright, but MDC had only opted to participate in the runoff in order to give Zimbabweans another chance to remove President Robert Mugabe’s “dictatorial” regime from power.
