UN envoy praises HIV/Aids Prevention efforts
Nairobi--The United Nations Special envoy for HIV/Aids in Africa Dr Stephen Lewis today praised Kenya’s efforts in the fight against the pandemic. Addressing a press conference at Nairobi’s Serena Hotel, Dr Lewis commended the government for putting in place plans to ensure that 140,000 HIV positive people are on ARVs by the end of the year. He was particularly full of praise for the Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission (PMTCT) programme at the Coast Provincial General Hospital.
Dr Lewis, who attended the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference, also met with representatives of the International Partnership for Microbicides (IPM), who are jointly conducting trials on microbicides with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI).
