One killed in constitution demo
NAIROBI--A man was killed in the country's capital,Nairobi and five others, including two policemen, were seriously injured on the second day of violent street demonstrations that rocked Nairobi and a few other towns. The demonstrators, mainly from the civil society organisations, have been protesting against a decision by a section of Members of Parliament to make changes to a Draft Constitution, which was adopted by the National Constitutional Conference on 15 March 2004. Police used teargas, rubber bullets and water cannons to violently disperse demonstrators who had threatened to storm parliament to hand over their memorandum to the speaker. A number of hooligans took advantage of the mayhem to engage in looting and destruction of property.
