Coalition to march against poverty
Anti-poverty campaigners representing over 100 civil society organizations and 60 different faiths in Kenya will on 2 July hold a march in Nairobi to mobilize support for the Global Call to Action Against Poverty [GCAP], the biggest anti-poverty campaign in the history of mankind. In Kenya, the coalition brings together civil society organizations and leaders of various faiths namely Christians, Muslims, Hindu and the Bahai.
The purpose of the march, dubbed ‘The people’s march to justice’ is to demand that G8 leaders meeting in Gleneagles, Scotland, take action to eradicate Africa’s poverty. The march will be preceded on 1 July by a visit to each of the G8 embassies to present a petition that will lobby for increased and better quality aid and the cancellation of Kenya’s crippling debt without harmful conditionalities
