Government sacks striking civil servants

NAIROBI--The government yesterday made good its threat and sacked about 30000 civil servants who have been on strike for the past two days. The decision was announced at a joint press conference addressed by Labour minister Newton Kulundu and his Public Service counterpart William Ole Ntimama. Opposition MPs and human rights activists condemned the move. The workers went on strike to force the govenment to grant them a 600 per cent pay hike.
