A call for zero tolerance against female genital mutilation by 2010 was made at a recent forth national day celebration against this unlawful circumcision practice in Bousse, 55 Kilometres West North of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Minister of the Social Action and National Solidarity Mrs Mariam Lamizana says the 15 years of calling people together have allowed more than 2/3 of the population in Burkina Faso to know the harmful consequences of this practice particularly on the health of little girls and women. Lamizana says this has also brought down unlawful circumcision prevalent from 66% in 1996 to 40%. She further suggested that young people should be included in the campaign in order to reduce more percentage and achieve the 2010 target.
