Pope Benedict ushered in the New Year on Tuesday calling for the protection of the traditional family, which he said was vital to world peace. Benedict, leader of the world's 1.2 billion Roman Catholics, urged followers to reject challenges to the family which he said were darkening the truth of man. The pontiff also said that to live in peace, the world needed to recognize the universal values that all people share as part of the human family. He also appealed for environmental protection and better administration of the world's energy resources.

Archbishop Emeritus Ndingi Mwana a Nzeki yesterday led Radio Waumini staff in a visit to the Langata Women’s prison. The visit is part of Waumini’s endeavors to bring hope to all Christians.
