African Life & Culture

This is a course offered to non African participants who wish to learn more about Africa in its diversity in an African setting. It introduces the participants to aspects of African life including its rich cultural heritage, its historical encounters that have shaped life on the continent today, its spirituality, politics and sociology.

The course is delivered through field work backed by introductory class work. The fieldwork involves visiting and learning from various settings and sites in Kenya, both rural and urban, slums and rich neighborhoods.

Organized as edu-tourism, the course also involves students visiting some of the tourist attraction sites that Kenya is famous for.

Goals
1. To bridge the information gap about Africa that exists between the continent and the rest of the world
2. To introduce non-Africans to African culture using Kenya as an African microcosm
3. To expose non-Africans to the everyday life of Africans
4. Enhance understanding between the African culture and other cultures of the world

Course Details
The course, which takes four weeks, is organized as a group package, with a minimum of 15 students.
